Choices, choices...

Where can we go from here? Families need options!

Here are a few leads:

Hire a fully remote teacher to oversee your child as they use district or online curriculum already chosen (like myself). They can check in daily to monitor progress, tutor on assignments, teach or reinforce challenging lessons. All of this can be done via phone, email, Zoom, Google meetings, or similar web tools. One place to post a plethora of education positions for hire is https://www.schoolspring.com/

Join a state charter school program- many support full distance learning or have a hybrid option where students go into a site a few days per week.

Become a homeschool guru- there are SO many free or low-cost options in the form of video teaching websites, scheduled classes online, or just traditional textbook and workbook materials. You do NOT have to be available to your child 7 hours a day to make this work! Important: Check you state laws; you may want to file an affidavit with the state. This basically classifies you as your own private school and makes it all "official".

Join a local co-op or learning pod! They are popping up all over the nation. Partner up with friends or neighbors to create a small group of learners who are around the same grade level and use the same curriculum. These small groups can also hire a private teacher or tutor to guide/monitor the students while parents work.

-Just remember that these education professionals are not usually signing up to be a nanny or babysitter. They need to focus all of their attention on providing, guiding and monitoring learning
